Forest Ranger Stumbles Upon A Mysterious Strange Cabin In The Woods With A Shocking Surprise Inside

00:00
if you spend enough time hiking or
00:01
camping in the woods you'll realize that
00:03
there's not much going on sure you can
00:05
spot some pretty interesting wildlife
00:07
scurrying around but beyond that it's a
00:09
pretty standard scene trees rocks bugs
00:12
away word squirrel or two and not much
00:15
else so you can imagine a surprise when
00:17
Marc Andre the Environmental Services
00:20
Director for our car to California
00:21
stumbled upon something he'd never seen
00:24
before
00:24
he'd been marking the trees to be
00:26
harvested in the Arcada community forest
00:29
when he realized something just wasn't
00:31
quite right when he stepped closer to
00:34
investigate his jaw dropped Marc Andreev
00:46
Arcata California has devoted his career
00:48
to exploring the woods in Northern
00:50
California as the town's Environmental
00:53
Services Director it was his job to
00:55
spend time on the wilderness he knew the
00:57
area like the back of his hand or so he
01:00
thought recently while he was out
01:02
marking trees to be harvested in the
01:04
Arcada community forest he stumbled upon
01:06
something just past some trees he had
01:09
never seen before
01:10
it certainly wasn't there last time he'd
01:12
been in the area it was almost perfectly
01:15
camouflaged and as Mark moved closer to
01:18
it he realized it was some sort of
01:20
elaborate makeshift cabin clearly
01:23
illegally constructed he wasn't quite
01:25
sure what he'd find when he went inside
01:27
the cabin was situated in one of the
01:30
most remote areas of the Arkana forest
01:32
mark hadn't explored this area since
01:34
about 1985 back when he was still just a
01:36
forest technician obviously whoever
01:39
built this wasn't expecting to be
01:41
discovered the first thing mark noted
01:43
about the cabin was that it seemed to be
01:45
fairly well constructed every now and
01:48
then Rangers will find random pieces of
01:50
debris put together by someone looking
01:52
for shelter in the woods but this was
01:54
far from random it was expertly planned
01:56
the cabin measured roughly 8 by 12 feet
01:59
and was estimated to be about 15 feet
02:02
high it featured a peaked roof a front
02:04
porch in an awning and plywood walls
02:07
covered in turps it was even built on a
02:09
solid concrete foundation
02:11
mark could only assume it's isolation
02:14
was what made constructing the cabin
02:16
possible in the first place I didn't see
02:19
it until I was 12 feet from it he
02:20
explained it's in the perfect
02:22
out-of-the-way spot where it wouldn't be
02:24
detected what made the cabin even more
02:27
mysterious was that no footpaths or
02:29
trails led to it mark also noted that
02:32
there didn't appear to be any sort of
02:33
environmental abuse or littering which
02:36
commonly accompanies this sort of thing
02:37
who ever lived there clearly respected
02:40
nature mark decided to call forest
02:43
technicians Xavier Nogueira and Nick
02:45
manfro dia for help
02:47
along with park ranger Heidi Grossman
02:49
they trekked back to the site to explore
02:51
the inside when they finally cut the
02:53
padlock and flung open the doors they
02:56
weren't sure what or who they'd find
02:58
inside as Heidi entered the cabin gun
03:01
drawn she shouted our cata police but no
03:04
one answered soon the group began to
03:06
scour the contents of the abode to see
03:08
if they could figure out any details
03:10
about its owner the group was quick to
03:12
note the tightly kept quarters in the
03:15
living room and kitchen area
03:16
housekeeping supplies and assorted cans
03:18
of food sannen shelves built into the
03:20
wall in many ways everything seemed
03:23
ordinary still there was more to explore
03:26
beside a rocking chair there was a
03:28
coffee table with a tea kettle sitting
03:30
on it directly across from the chair was
03:32
a pot-bellied stove whoever had been
03:34
living here wasn't exactly struggling
03:36
out in the wilderness in another corner
03:39
of the cabin was a small bookshelf
03:40
constructed on a wall it was lined with
03:42
various titles including catch me if you
03:44
can and medicinal plants of the Pacific
03:47
West soon the Rangers began to suspect
03:49
it was an older person who'd been living
03:51
there other items like a stack of tapes
03:55
lent credence to the search party
03:56
suspicions still they continued to
03:59
search for other clues that might help
04:00
them determine just who it was that
04:02
called this mysterious place home
04:05
the group also found a handwritten list
04:07
of things to do and get which told them
04:10
a little bit more about the cabins at
04:11
habited the list which includes dates
04:13
was comprised of tasks such as build
04:16
bench extended brush wall season cast
04:18
irons get six-inch stove pipe lashing
04:21
and get tongs 122 11 near the stove pipe
04:26
the group also found a copy of nearby
04:28
Humboldt State Universities the
04:30
lumberjack newspaper dated March 25th
04:32
2015
04:34
between the list and the paper the team
04:36
started to piece together a timeline for
04:38
when the cabins owner might have lived
04:40
there while they did find two drivers
04:43
licenses they each bore the names of
04:45
different people and they didn't lead
04:47
the search party to any conclusions as
04:48
to who lived there they could only
04:50
assume the person was visiting
04:52
seasonally since camping on public
04:55
property is illegal even if the person
04:57
who's doing it is being respectful of
04:58
the land and the cabin existed on a
05:00
nature refuge the crew left an addiction
05:03
notice for the inhabitant from there
05:04
things really got strange what
05:07
authorities returned to a cabin site at
05:09
a later date they found it had been
05:11
totally deconstructed the only trace of
05:14
it was a charcoal squatter symbol for
05:16
the cabin once said that's the cleanest
05:18
camp cleanup I've ever seen said Michael
05:21
McDowell the natural resources
05:23
technician for the Environmental
05:24
Services Department
05:25
there wasn't a nail not even a gum
05:28
wrapper left behind it's unlikely that
05:30
the cabins owner would come forward
05:32
given the potential for legal trouble
05:34
after all the cabin was built on public
05:36
land still it's pretty impressive they
05:39
were ever able to construct it in the
05:40
first place talk about a mystery whoever
05:44
built and lived in that cabin had some
05:46
serious dedication it makes you wonder
05:48
if they'll ever be found
05:50

05:55
